Hario - A hack of Super Mario Brothers 2 - by SpoonyBard
--------------------------------------------------------

V 1.12

1 - Levels Updates

March 21, 2000

The first update for Hario. Well, technically it's the second, if there's anyone who's played
the original graphics only hack. But this is the first release with new levels. And I have the
first world edited. 1-1, 1-2 and 1-3. The V 1.12 means the first release and 12 areas edited.
There are 16 total areas in world 1. But there are 4 areas that are either unchanged or
unaccesable due to a few reasons:

1-1, The area with the ninji, waterfall and beanstalk, second cave room. While trying to change
that place I messed it up unbelievably, and it crashes every single time you enter that area. I
tried for a few hours trying to restore it with no luck. So I just removed the dark door that
leads into that area, and in the first cave area I removed the beanstalk that leads down into it.

1-2, The two jars. I just removed them since they had no real purpose in my version of 1-2.

1-3, The corridor right before Mousers room. For some strange reason whenever I change ANYTHING
in that room the game crashes whenever you enter the area. I don't know why it does that, but
until it's either fixed or I find a way to work around it, the small corridor right before
Mousers room is unchanged. Don't worry, I made up for it with a NICE boss room (heh heh)

3 - Explanation

A lot of my hack won't make much sense to everyone. I started it a few years ago as a graphics
only hack as a joke. It is based on one of my teachers in high school who's real name I won't
mention, but he used to have an old nick-name called Harry-O. And Harry-O sounds just like
Hario. The emphasis on turnips originated with a joke me and a friend of mine we having with him
about turnips. Don't ask how it got started, it just did ok? :D So all the mushroom related
stuff in Mario2 was changed to Turnips. The Cherry Graphics were changed to red lolipops, he had
a strict no candy rule in his class whereas other teachers didn't. The POW Block was changed to a
-100 block. One of his tradmarks in correcting tests and assignments was to put a little red -100
next to a really stupid mistake. IE mispelling a common word, or one he's gone over several
times. Basically it meant that if he could, he would take away full marks for that one stupid
mistake. And of course there is the hacked Mario graphic, which I made out to look like him.
Those are the only graphics changes that really mean anything, the rest I just threw in.

4 - The levels

1-1 : Quite a few changes, you'd need to stay on your toes, it's no cakewalk like the original.
Recommendation - Mario

1-2 : Arrgh! No Pidget! Well it's ok, theres a bridge over the gap, but watch out for the grey
Beezo swarm!
Recommendation - Mario or Luigi

1-3 : Just be careful. Take your time, but don't stay in one place too long in the first area of
this level. And I suggest you use the Princess, her floating could save you at Mouser.
Recommendation - Princess

5 - Credits and Comments

First I would like to thank the following

Acmlm - Heck, he's the one who made the SMB2 Discombobulator, and without it, this would just be
a graphics only hack. But thanks to him I was able to make the levels that gave you so much
frustration.

X-4000 - The founder of Challenge Games and an inspiration to people wanting to make level hacks.
And he was an inspiration to me, and he gave me some good advice for hacking levels.

If you play this hack, please e-mail me with comments. I want as much feedback as possible. This
is the first time I've tried level editing and I want to know how well (or terrible) I did.
