WELCOME EVERYONE TO WWF RAW IS TENNIS! TONIGHT'S MAIN IS
A BLOCKBUSTER AS STONECOLD STEVE AUSTIN FACES YOURS TRULY,
VINCE MCMAHON, IN HIS GREATEST CHALLENGE YET! WIMBLEDON!!

INTRODUCTION:

Ok, enough with the lame Vince McMahon impersonations.
This is your typical NES graphics hack. The idea came to
me one day while I was trying to think of an interesting
hack to do and it seemed creative enough to take a couple
of hours to do it. It won't really appeal to anyone that's
not a WWF fan, but I don't really care. I did it for fun
and I think it came out rather good, overall. The graphics
aren't great, but cut me some slack. The game WAS designed
in 1993, afterall.

Anywayz, for those of you that aren't WWF fans but decide
to play this anywayz, you play as Stone Cold Steve Austin,
the current WWF champion and your opponent is Vince McMahon,
owner of the WWF who is currently embroiled in a major feud
with Stone Cold. Just for the hell of it, I also turned
Mario (the referee) into Howard Finkel, the main WWF ring
announcer.

REQUIREMENTS:

tennis.nes - This is the original NES Tennis ROM
wwftenis.ips - This is the patch that contains the hack
ips.exe - This is the program that will apply the patch
nesticle.exe - Or any other NES emulator, I prefer Nesticle

APPLYING THE PATCH:

Applying the IPS patch is simple. All you have to do is have
the ROM, the IPS patch and IPS.EXE in the same directory.
Then type the following: IPS TENNIS.NES WWFTENIS.IPS

Simple as that. You might want to make a copy of the original
ROM first, though, because you can't remove the IPS patch once
it's applied.

GAMEPLAY:

The gameplay for WWF RAW is TENNIS is exactly like that of
normal tennis. You use the directional pad to move Stone Cold
around and you hit the A button to swing your racket. The B
button also swings the racket, but will cause the ball to go
into a slow lob instead of the normal low, hard shot.

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions):

Q: Why do I have to apply the patch? Why can't you just
distribute the hacked version of the ROM?

A: Because it's technically illegal to hack ROMs. It's also
illegal to distribute commercial ROMs. IPS patches, though,
are legal. While it's not really a big deal, I'd prefer
not to break any more laws than absolutely necessary.

Q: Can you send me the Tennis ROM?

A: No, search around, it's an easy ROM to find. Use AltaVista
and type +NES +ROM +Tennis for your search criteria and I'm
sure you'll find it easily. All ROM requests will be
forwarded to the IDSA & SPA for review.

Q: WWF SUCKS! Why didn't you do a WCW hack instead?

A: Because Stone Cold was the easiest to do graphics wise.
There's not a whole lot of detail to him, which is good,
because there's not a whole lot of detail to the game,
   either.

Q: Have you done any other ROM Hacks?

A: Not yet, though I'm working on a total conversion (text &
graphics) of Goonies 2 using Kent Hansen's GoonEdit level
editor and a Japanese to English translation of the game
Labyrinth. All of my work can be found at
   http://members.xoom.com/the_arsenal
or at least it will be once I get the page updated again.

Q: I want to do ROM hacks too. How do I start?

A: Graphics hacks are easy to do but hard to do well. There
are several programs you can use to do it. I did the
graphics hacking of WWF Tennis by using Nesticle's palette
editor. I did a small amount of text editing by using Kent
   Hansen's Hexposure program.

Both of these programs can be downloaded at Zophar's Domain,
currently located at http://zophar.malicia.com. If that
address doesn't work for some reason, try again in a few
days or ask around, it's bound to be back somewhere.

For more information on ROM Hacking, I recommend the
   following sites:

Q: Why does this readme suck so much? It didn't answer my
   question.

A: Because I'm lame and because I don't even really know why
the fuck I bothered to write this thing. I just felt like
giving a little bit of explanation concerning the hack and
thought I might as well try to answer a few basic questions
   as well.

Ok, so that ends this installment of the WWF RAW is TENNIS
read-me.txt. If you have any legitimate questions (which
means NO ROM REQUESTS or HOW DO I RUN THE IPS FILE?) then
feel free to e-mail me at either inverse@atheist.com or
inversex@hotmail.com. If the first doesn't work for some
reason, the second one is guaranteed to.

NOTE: You may distribute the WWF RAW is TENNIS patch on your
site, but please keep this readme-txt in it's original form
with the IPS patch.
