* Note * - Please do NOT distribute the ROM without this file, since
  it contains important information.

  This is a graphics improvement hack from the next dimension,
for the NES game Super Mario Bros. It has been worked on by
harmony7 and CrASH_Man since the month of August, 1997 and was
released for the first time on April 12th, 1998.

  This graphics hack deals with many problems that were, in the
past, unaddressible about Super Mario Bros., such as a custom
tile-map and a custom palette. However, recently the project
was expanded. Stay tuned for updates. We hope to turn this
game into a great new big game.

What's new in v.98.04 (05/24/98):
- Fixed up a bug in the clouds that would cause some of the
  background to be destroyed, as could be seen in 4-3.
- Brightened up some of the colors.
- This will be the last update in a while, just because anything
  beyond this stage will involve lots of coding :( If you want
  to help me, please mail me!

What's new in v.98.03 (05/04/98):
- Added a new bitmapped graphic for Mario's and Luigi's names at
  the top of the screen. Looks nice!
- Reformatted this file a bit. Hope you like it!

What's new in v.98.02 (04/21/98):
- fixed a small title screen 'bug' which destroys part of the
  castle bitmap.  I know it's a small fix but that's all I've
  had time to do in the last few days.

What's new in v.98.01 (04/16/98):
- expanded the ROM to Mapper 15. Now we'll be able to make more
  levels and maybe more graphics.
- fixed up a few things that were flawed in the ROM dump.
- SELECT key now functions properly.
- B button now functions after the game has been beaten.
- tiles have begun to be remapped.
- added a new member to the team (barubary)
- now includes IPS.EXE, since it seemed to be difficult for a
  few of you to find.

What's new in v.98 (04/12/98):
- first public release
- custom tilemap (no more mirrored Mario!)
- custom palette
- custom font

This archive no longer contains IPS files, since I had problems
getting IPS files to work. It now contains the full expanded ROM
file, so if you do not own a legal copy of the game (ie the cartridge)
you must destroy this ROM image after 24 hours. Failure to do so
may result in legal action by its owner (Nintendo), and it won't be
my fault. Please be careful when you distribute it.

Known bugs:
***********

I *KNOW* that there is a problem with Mario swimming when he
is big. I *KNOW* that there is a problem with Mario when he
shrinks. I *KNOW* that the same problems apply to Luigi.

Ideas anyone?
*************

So far many of you have given me ideas about what I might want
to do with this project. I've added room to the ROM, so there's
room for whatever I can come up with. So far ideas include:

- different character sets for different levels
  * cave tilesets
  * lunar tilesets
  * castle tilesets
  * etc.

- different character sets for the main character depending on
  levels
  * space suit
  * golf suit
  * etc.

- more and different music (although this will be difficult)

- more and larger levels

- poisonous mushrooms (as in The Lost Levels)

- upside-down pipes (as in The Lost Levels)

If you have any ideas, please tell me! I will be happy to give
you credit for the ideas. My email address is listed below, or
you can find me on IRC.

If there are any suggestions or bug reports other than those
listed above, tell me about them!

*Legal Stuff*
All video games mentioned are the property of their respective
owners. There is no video game company or any other company
associated with our team. Like I said above, you may only keep
this ROM for 24 hours unless you legally own a copy of the game.
I wish I didn't have to type this stuff but it's to avoid
complication.
